WILMINGTON, Del. – Analytical Biological Services (ABS), a cell and tissue culture supplier, is making a killing selling human brain tissue.
The company was founded as a one-man operation but now employs 25 scientists and other staff in a 12,000 square-foot laboratory and office space in the Cornell Business Park. In each of the past two years, ABS has expanded its workforce by 20 percent and hopes to double in size in the coming years.
The target market for ABS are pharmaceutical companies and biotech companies relying on human tissue, blood cells and other bodily fluids to treat and diagnose a variety of diseases and disorders, and they are paying premium prices. According to New York-based Persistence Market Research, the global cell and tissue market is expected to grow from $16.3 billion to $28 billion by 2020.
